How the Mycotoxin Test Works

You collect your first morning urine at home and send it off — no clinic visit, no blood draw. The lab measures the sample on mass spectrometry using Vibrant’s patented platform, sensitive enough to detect toxins as small as 5 picograms. Your report groups the results into Aflatoxins, Trichothecenes and Other Mycotoxins, flags every marker as in control, moderate or high, and notes whether a toxin traces back to food or environmental mould. Retest later and the report lines your previous level up next to each marker, so progress is visible.

What It Measures

All 31 markers in one panel, in three groups:

• Aflatoxins — B1, B2, G1, G2 and M1, toxins from Aspergillus moulds that turn up in stored grains, nuts and water-damaged buildings.
• Trichothecenes — the satratoxins, roridins and verrucarins produced by Stachybotrys, the black mould behind many building-related illnesses, plus Fusarium toxins like T-2, nivalenol and DAS.
• Other mycotoxins — including ochratoxin A, gliotoxin, sterigmatocystin, zearalenone, citrinin, patulin, mycophenolic acid and the fumonisins.

Suggested Use

Collect your first morning urine upon awakening, before eating or drinking. Fasting is not required, though fasting for 12 hours beforehand may increase the amount of mycotoxins excreted in urine — check with your practitioner whether that suits you. Frequently Asked Questions

Will the test tell me where the mould is? No. It shows which mycotoxins your body is carrying — exposure can come from food as well as buildings, and the report indicates which of the two a toxin traces back to. Finding the source in your home or workplace is a separate step.

Does cooking destroy mould in food? No — mould is heat-resistant and usually survives cooking. Inspect food thoroughly.

How often should I retest? There is no fixed guideline; many providers retest after 3–6 months and again at 12 months. Each new report shows your previous levels alongside the current ones.
