HCL Guard | Healthy Gut

Heavy, sluggish, still full hours after a protein meal? Your stomach may need more acid, not less. HCL Guard supplies the acid, enzyme and factor that protein digestion depends on.

HCL Guard is a betaine hydrochloride formula from Healthy Gut, built to support the acid environment your stomach needs to break protein down and release the minerals locked up in your food.
How HCL Guard Works
Your stomach is meant to be acidic. That acidity does three jobs at once: it unfolds protein so enzymes can reach it, it switches on pepsin — the enzyme that cuts protein into amino acids — and it frees minerals such as calcium, iron and magnesium for absorption further along. When acid output falls, meals sit longer, feel heavier and move on only partly broken down. HCL Guard works on that whole sequence — it supplies the acid and brings the enzyme with it, so digestion starts as the capsule opens.
Key Ingredients
Each capsule delivers 745 mg of actives, no fillers:
- Betaine hydrochloride — 550 mg. The acid itself, supplying the low pH your stomach works at.
- Organic ginger root extract, 5% gingerols — 100 mg. A prokinetic — it helps keep food moving at the right pace.
- Deglycyrrhizinated liquorice root extract, 10% flavonoids — 50 mg. Liquorice with the glycyrrhizin removed, here for the stomach lining.
- Pepsin — 30 mg. The protein-splitting enzyme, at high activity so it works the moment the acid switches it on.
- Intrinsic factor — 15 mg. The carrier protein needed to absorb vitamin B12.
Who It’s For
Worth a look if protein-heavy meals leave you heavy and full for hours, if you burp a lot after eating, or if you eat well but suspect you are not getting much out of it. Acid output tends to decline with age, and stress and gut infections push it lower still.
Suggested Use
Take HCL Guard with meals containing at least 7 g of protein — without protein there is nothing for it to work on. The dose differs per person, so build up: one capsule per protein meal on day one, two on day two, and so on. Most people settle between two and four per meal; never exceed eight.
Stop increasing when you feel a light warmth in your stomach, then drop back one capsule — that is your level. About one in three never feel it; go by your digestion instead. If it turns uncomfortable, half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in water neutralises it. Do not use HCL Guard if you have active ulcers or gastritis, or take prescription steroid medication. Take as directed by your healthcare practitioner.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is HCL Guard made?
In a GMP-certified facility in the USA, from globally sourced ingredients. It is third-party tested and non-GMO.
How long should I stay on it?
Give it three to six months before judging. Many stay on longer; some taper off as their own stomach function picks up.
What else helps while I work on my digestion?
Diet is the other half of it. Esther’s guide Healthy Gut Healthy You covers the foods that commonly inflame the gut, and ten steps for settling it.
